Our Vision Based Within Our History
Interplay seeks to develop personal interaction between the residents of the Greater Houston area and the Houston Symphony Orchestra musicians in order to enrich the cultural and artistic experience for both. The ‘Musicians of the Houston Symphony’ was established around 10 years ago in response to a general feeling that the Houston community viewed the orchestra as one large, faceless unit. Created as a vehicle for the musicians to be introduced as individuals to the community, our not-for-profit organization has produced many positive effects for both parties involved as well as outside publics.
Our accomplishments to date have included donating around $10,000 worth of music to the dilapidated Houston Symphony library center after the destructive floods of Tropical Storm Allison in 2001, joining in matching grants, and putting on a large fund-raising concert to support the Red Cross in wake of Hurricane Katrina and its disastrous aftermath.
We have spearheaded a photo project that will personalize the musicians of the Houston Symphony through the art of creative photography. This project is still underway.
We have also held many salon concerts as an outlet to befriend the Houston community and raise monies for our projects. Producing salon concerts is a continuous effort. For more information about salon concerts, please view the ‘Host a Salon Concert’ tab.
Lastly, we do not receive personal payment for services and all monies raised are used to benefit the Houston Symphony.
